Please join Elana Wolkoff, Sprague School Psychologist, and Kalise Wornum, METCO director, for a discussion on Talking to your Children about Race on Wednesday, May 15th at 8:45am in the Ellen Cunniff Library at Sprague Elementary.

Race is a complicated topic and often, despite our best intentions, we, as parents, are at a loss for words.  Come share insights and leave with greater comfort with the language and contexts for such discussions with children of all ages.

RIDE OF THE SPRAGUE FLOAT - SUNDAY, MAY 19TH

Please join us on Sunday, May 19th to ride on or alongside the Sprague Float. Wellesley’s theme for this year’s parade is “Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Conflict.” The Sprague Float will be designed to complement this theme appropriately, and the construction of the float will be led by this year’s 5th graders. We’d love any and all Sprague families to march with the float! Here are the details:

Date:  Sunday, May 19th

Time:  Please arrive no later than 12:45 for a 1:00PM start

Place:  Float will be positioned on Woodlawn Avenue closest to the Rt. 16 end of the road

Details: Families with children in grades K-2 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Grades 3-5 children may be dropped off at the float location, and, upon arrival, please sign in your child with either Amy Paladino or Kathy Ashraf. Plan on picking your child up at the Wellesley Center train parking lot at approximately 2:45PM
  • A helmet is mandatory if your child is planning on riding a bike, rollerblading, or scooting
  • In lieu of handing out candy during the route, we will have the kids give out yellow ribbon stickers, and we have PLENTY of them!
  • If it’s a sunny/warm day (last year it was 80 degrees), please have your child apply sunscreen prior to start of parade
  • Show your school spirit or support for our troops by wearing Sprague t-shirts (or red/white tops) or an armed forces logo shirt such as Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard.

Watching the Parade?  Please bring a food item for the Wellesley Food Pantry

The World of Wellesley is asking for everyone to bring an item for the Wellesley Food Pantry to the 45th Annual Wellesley Veterans' Parade on Sunday, May 19th. WOW's goal is to fill our float with food/nonfood items needed for the Wellesley Food Pantry. Please help us reach our goal and have your family bring ONE food item to the parade for our board members and friends to collect along the route and help us to fill the truck. Please direct any questions to Michelle Chalmers at 781.591.9435 or moh23321@aol.com The pantry is in need of canned goods –canned meals, canned corn, canned fruit, canned tomatoes ,etc
