Thank you and Congratulations!
Thank you to all Sprague Families who supported the teacher's appreciation lunch last week under the leadership of Sprague parent, Becca Cahaly. Many thanks to those families and children who brought in flowers, gifts and cards to recognize our Administrative Staff.  :-)
Congratulations to Wellesley Green Schools parent team leaders who won a Green Leader award from Green Difference Awards at the State House on Tuesday, April 23rd for its work on the success of the Power to Choose campaign led by Sprague parent, Phyllis Theermann.

Not only did they receive signed citations from the MA House and Senate, they also received this huge award banner in the photo below which will be rotating to each school starting with Sprague and then having its final residence in the Superintendents office.

Sprague Supports its Troops in the Annual Wellesley Parade - Sunday, May 19th

Please join us on Sunday, May 19 to ride on or alongside the Sprague Float. Wellesley’s theme for this year’s parade is “Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Conflict.” The Sprague Float will be designed to complement this theme appropriately, and the construction of the float will be led by this year’s 5th graders. We’d love any and all Sprague families to march with the float! Here are the details:

Date: Sunday, May 19

Time:
Please arrive no later than 12:45 for a 1:00PM start

Place:
Float will be positioned on Woodlawn Avenue closest to the Rt. 16 end of the road

Details:

  • Families with children in grades K-2 must be accompanied by an adult
  • Grades 3-5 children may be dropped off at the float location, and, upon arrival, please sign in your child with either Amy Paladino or Kathy Ashraf. Plan on picking your child up at the Wellesley Center train parking lot at approximately 2:45PM
  • A helmet is mandatory if your child is planning on riding a bike, rollerblading, or scooting
  • In lieu of handing out candy during the route, we will have the kids give out yellow ribbon stickers, and we have PLENTY of them!
  • If it’s a sunny/warm day (last year it was 80 degrees), please have your child apply sunscreen prior to start of parade
Questions/Additional Information:

· Amy Paladino, amypal@comcast.net, (h) 781-772-1242, (m) 617-733-5121

Around Town

Green Tip of the Month from Wellesley Green Schools

Now that we can see our school ball fields again, please bring reusable bottles for water and sports drinks, while on those fields.

Doing so is an easy way to reduce the 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year that bottled water produces in the US.

In addition, the town's Department of Public Works has installed new, and replaced, water fountains at nearly all of the fields so players, coaches and spectators can bring a reusable bottle or grab a drink on the field. Ouellet and Philips Park are scheduled to receive drinking fountains next year. The DPW has also added recycling bins to ALL sports fields, making recycling even easier.

AROUND TOWN

7th Annual Wellesley-Weston PMC Kids Bike Ride
Sunday, June 2, 2013
8:30 am – 11:30 am
Babson College, Wellesley

We need you and your friends to help cure cancer by joining this year’s ride!  Last year we raised $55,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and this year we intend to raise even more.  Come be a part of this great community effort!
Route Options:
·        Off Road Challenge (ages 9-13):  New for this year!  1 ½ mile loop on Babson’s campus, including a long stretch on a smooth, hard-packed dirt road (mountain/hybrid bike required).  Challenge yourself by riding lots of times around!
·        Campus Adventure (ages 6-10):  1 ¼ mile loop on Babson’s campus.  Ride it as many times as you want!
·        Tot Lot:  Fun-filled obstacle course and other activities for little bikers
·        Virtual Rider:  Can’t join us on Ride Day?  You can still fundraise by registering as a virtual rider. You'll get your PMC shirt and goody bag and enjoy knowing your participation has made a real difference.

Raise Money and Win Prizes!  The Kids Ride is all about raising money for Dana Farber.  Every rider has a fundraising minimum of $25, although we strongly encourage you to pursue our suggested fundraising goals ($50 for Tot Lot, $75 for 6-8 years old, $125 for ages 9 and up).  Once you meet your minimum, lots of great things happen -- you receive a raffle ticket to win an iPad and you get a surprise gift on ride day.  And, if you raise $250 or more, you’ll also receive special recognition and a drawstring bag as one of our Heavy Hitter fundraisers.

Register online. Go to www.kids.pmc.org to register for the ride.  We need adults and teens 14+ to volunteer, so ask your family members to sign up too!  Details on volunteer opportunities are available on the website.
