Following the success of Wellesley’s POWER to CHOOSE renewable
energy campaign, Wellesley's Sustainable Energy Committee, Wellesley’s Municipal
Light Plant and National Grid are launching POWER to $AVE -
Wellesley's Energy Savings Program.
This initiative encourages residents to get a no-cost energy
assessment and then accomplish at least some of the recommendations from the
assessment.
A
home energy assessment evaluates a home’s energy usage and provides
recommendations on how to improve its efficiency, including estimated payback
periods if recommendations are followed. Doing so
will reduce the carbon footprint in that home and our town, as well as save on energy bills.
No-cost equipment and attractive
incentives and rebates may be available.
This is an ideal opportunity to
educate Wellesley children to be responsible citizens and to demonstrate to
them that we care about the world we are leaving to them.
Look for an information card with this logo on it coming home in K-5 backpacks and being distributed by WMS grade 6 Green Ambassadors.

If you received a new electronic device for the holidays or a birthday, what do you plan to do with the old one? The Wellesley Recycling and Disposal Facility (the “Dump”) happily takes all old electronics, computer and cellphones for recycling. Or you can use an on-line buy back program such as locally owned Gazelle; you supply information online about your gadget, they refurbish and resell it, taking a small fee for the service. Or you can try to sell it through Ebay or Craig’s list. Whatever you do, don’t throw it in the trash. The toxins inside your old electronics don’t belong in a landfill, so do the right thing and recycle it properly.
