Dear Sprague Community,
No matter what you
or your family may be working on or struggling with, we want you to know
that there is help here within your community.
Matthew
and I attended this month’s Central Council Meeting this past week. The
Central Council Meeting is a gathering of all of our Wellesley school
PTOs.
This month’s meeting focused on the wide
range of social and emotional resources available within our schools
and our community. We heard from Dr. Rob Evans, Executive Director of
Human Relations Services (HRS), Lori Cimeno, Director of K-12 Student
Services and Maura Renzella, Youth Director for the Wellesley Youth
Commission.
Human Relations Services (HRS)
provides Wellesley and surrounding communities with clinical, community
education, consultation and employee assistance services. The clinical
staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers have
experience in child and family therapy and are available to see clients
within our community promptly. HRS is a private, non-profit community
mental health agency.
It was a very informative
discussion and an important topic for every community. During the
discussions, two of the panel members both mentioned their concerns for
students as they go home without perhaps the same supports that are in
place at school. For me as a parent, it was a reminder to continue to be
attentive and supportive of my children’s social and emotional needs at
home. As a member of our community, it reminded me of the
responsibility we have to support each other to learn and find ways to
best address the needs of our families and our children.
The PTO is looking to host a few more meetings and special guests next year on topics to help support our local families. Should you have a suggestion on a topic you would like to hear more about, please let me know via email to elaine@themartenfamily.com
Here is
a list of articles Dr. Evans (HRS) referred to. He highly recommended
these articles to help parents feel more confident and competent.
You can find out more about HRS and other services in town at Comprehensive Mental Health Services
Our Sprague School Psychologist, Scott Marder, is also available for guidance and support.
Let’s
keep the conversation going. Should you have questions and concerns or
need further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out. That’s
what community is for!
Elaine Marten
